事實上，「Seasons in the Sun」絕對不是一首愉快的曲子，甚至還十分的傷感。它是一位法國歌手Jacques Brel的作品，原名叫做「Le Moribond」（臨終的人），發(fā)表于1961年。歌曲的內(nèi)容大致描述一個罹患癌癥、不久于人世的男子，在面臨死亡的時候，對父親、妻子以及摯友的依依難舍。

再創(chuàng)作

Brel私交相當(dāng)不錯的美國詩人歌手Rod McKuen，很早就把這首歌曲翻譯成英文的「Seasons in the Sun」，并且在1964年由民歌界元老的Kingston Trio率先灌錄成唱片，不過當(dāng)時并沒有造成太大的轟動。后來，跟Rod McKuen頗有交情的Terry Jacks把它重新灌錄，在1974年的三月二日獲得全美排行三周冠軍，原本也沒有在中國受到太多注意，直到幾年之后，才因為柯達(dá)的廣告而在臺灣造成了瘋狂的流行，只可惜主唱人Terry Jacks當(dāng)時早就在歌壇消失了。這位男歌手留下來的歌曲本來就不多，不過這首歌卻成了經(jīng)典——盡管他的詮釋老實說有點(diǎn)失真。

新主唱?dú)v史

來自加拿大的Terry Jacks成長于溫哥華，高中時代曾經(jīng)贏得藝術(shù)獎學(xué)金，但是在建筑師、職業(yè)高爾夫與音樂這三種行業(yè)中，他卻選擇了后者，并且自組了一支The Chessman樂隊，不過并不成功。有一次，他的樂隊?wèi)?yīng)邀上電視表演，使他結(jié)識了一位漂亮的女歌手Susan Pesklevits，兩人一見鐘情，隨即結(jié)婚、并且展開音樂事業(yè)上的合作。

由于當(dāng)時的唱片市場上，似乎以合唱團(tuán)比較吃香，所以盡管只有他老婆一個人獨(dú)唱，他們還是決定用The Poppy Family為名，并且在1970年以獲得美國排行亞軍的「Which Way You Goin' Billy」一曲成名?？上У氖牵@對夫妻在1973年就宣告分手了。

離婚之后，Terry Jacks繼續(xù)在歌壇奮斗。由于吉他彈得不錯，他應(yīng)邀為Beach Boys伴奏。有一次，在錄音的時候，他建議Beach Boys灌錄「Seasons in the Sun」這首歌。不過，錄完之后，可能是由于效果不如理想，Beach Boys決定不發(fā)行。而極為喜愛這首歌的Terry則為了追悼一位意外過世的好友，決定自己來灌唱。

Terry取得作者的同意，把最后一段歌詞稍加修改，同時以輕快的節(jié)奏處理，使歌曲顯得輕松一些，可是完工之后，在架子上一擺就是一年。有一天，他把帶子放出來聽，正好一位年輕的送報生來到他家，聽到了這首歌，于是要求是否可以帶自己的朋友過來欣賞。

使Terry決定自己發(fā)行這首歌曲。果然，這首歌在加拿大造成了轟動，美國的唱片公司也慕名而來，取得了發(fā)行權(quán)。1974年三月，這首歌不但獲得三周排行冠軍，更成了金唱片，銷售達(dá)六百多萬張，使他名揚(yáng)四海。不久之后，他又灌錄了另外一首同樣由McKuen翻譯成英語的Brel作品「If You Go Away」，也得到了不錯的成績?？上У氖牵诟鑹皇菚一ㄒ滑F(xiàn)，一年之后就銷聲匿跡了。

故事背景

說的是1963年的冬季，美國冷得徹骨，來美國樂壇闖蕩的加拿大男孩Terry Jacks坐在沒有暖氣的屋子里喝著白蘭地，耳邊放著法國歌手Jacques Brel的《Lemoribond》。來美國也不少日子了，但卻沒有音樂人對他的音樂感興趣。他看起剛剛朋友塞給他的一張名片，背后抄了一個死刑犯的臨終遺言，聽著《Lemoribond》，看著名片背后的字，他拿起了吉他開始輕輕彈唱……

“在五十年代美國的一個小鎮(zhèn)上，有兩位少年，我們暫且稱之為A和C吧。A和C出生于同一個社區(qū)，從小一塊兒長大，他們總是一起爬樹、游戲，有時候還一起干一些出格的事。反正無論如何他們都形影不離，即便是上學(xué)，他們也都是在同一個班級，如此一直到高中。A和C雖然是絕好的朋友，但他們卻性格迥異。A絕對是那種你看一眼就為之傾倒的男孩：他活力十足，開朗陽光，自信，對運(yùn)動也十分在行，因而人緣頗好，全校中暗戀他的女生不計其數(shù)，他還是學(xué)校橄欖球隊的隊長。而C的性格卻恰恰相反，他很敏感害羞，不善于表達(dá)自己的情感，但是他的手工卻很棒，會做各種模型。

“一切過的都很不錯，但上帝卻很折磨人，他讓這兩個男孩同時愛上了B，性感迷人的班花。結(jié)果可想而知，C默默地注視著他的朋友和愛人在一起……一直到了畢業(yè)，C成了一名木匠；而A當(dāng)了卡車司機(jī)，并和B結(jié)了婚，婚后生下了女兒Michelle，B也經(jīng)營了一家雜貨店，那是她的嫁妝。然而，為了讓家人生活得更好，讓女兒能獲得良好的教育，A不得不跨好幾個州甚至橫跨整個美國去運(yùn)送貨物，因而一個月只能回家一兩趟來看看家人，隔一天又要坐車去送貨了。相比之下，作為木匠的C就輕松多了，所以他經(jīng)常來雜貨店給B幫忙。

“但是時間一天天過去了，B和C日日相對，兩顆孤獨(dú)的心越靠越近，逐漸產(chǎn)生了超越朋友之間的那種感情，那種感情維系了兩年，而A卻絲毫沒有察覺，他依舊疼愛家人，信任朋友……

“在1959年的隆冬，A依舊開著卡車上了洲際公路，但是連天的大雪使公路被封閉了，人們不得不等待公路的解封。但A等了兩天，情況似乎不見好轉(zhuǎn)，天氣預(yù)報說這種惡劣的天氣還將持續(xù)一周，于是A掉轉(zhuǎn)車頭開回了家，這一開又過了三天。半夜兩點(diǎn)終于快到家了，他下車滿心歡喜地給家里打了電話，但遲遲沒人接聽。A很擔(dān)心，想到是不是女兒生病住院了。他立即開車去了C家，想打聽家里的情況。他敲開了c家的門，在他眼前的竟然是兩個人——他的朋友和他的妻子！這種場面即便A再遲鈍也立刻明白發(fā)生了什么事，他望著眼前這兩個人，只說了一個字'Why？'這種問題哪里給出答案！A掏出防身用的手槍結(jié)束了妻子和朋友的性命，然后駕車徑直駛往警察局。

“他原本可以逃往臨州免于死刑，但他選擇了徑直去警察局，在本州審判，陪審團(tuán)一致通過他犯故意殺人罪，被判處死刑，于1957年2月6日執(zhí)行電椅死刑。他被關(guān)在死囚牢里，離行刑還有三天，一張紙和一支筆塞了進(jìn)來，給他寫臨終的遺言。”

法律上

雖然在法律上，A犯了故意殺人罪；但在民間，許多人卻認(rèn)為在道義上a也是極大的受害者。于是，人們紛紛傳抄他的遺言，Terry Jacks在1963年拿到的那張名片背面的遺言，就是朋友抄的。terry jacks將a的遺言填入《Lemoribond》的曲中寫成了《Seasons in the sun》。他四處給音樂人彈唱這首歌，但哪個音樂人會給一個無名之輩投資呢？最終，他找到了Beach Boys，把這首歌唱給他們聽。這首歌很棒，Beach Boys自己將這首翻唱，可惜他們無法傳遞出這首歌的情感，于是Terry Jacks借了錄音棚把這首歌錄了一遍。然而因為他們當(dāng)時專輯的歌滿了，沒有將此歌收錄進(jìn)去。直到十年之后，1973年，這首歌終于一炮而紅，之后有許多翻唱的版本。在第二種歌曲背景下，對歌詞做點(diǎn)解釋：和大家?？吹降牟煌际荳e have joy，we have fun 　Westlife版是We had joy，we had fun原版是用“have”的，表示作者的一種希望之情，他希望能永遠(yuǎn)快樂，但是死亡逼近，已經(jīng)永遠(yuǎn)不可能了。
